Helpful Hints
  • Studies have suggested that walking at a brisk pace for three or more hours a week can reduce your risk for coronary heart disease by 65 percent.
  • Fitness consists of four components: your body's ability to use oxygen as a source of energy, which translates into cardiovascular fitness; muscular strength and endurance; flexibility; and body composition.
  • No matter how poor your current level of fitness, you can start an exercise routine and become fitter and healthier. Even 90-year-old women who use walkers have been shown in studies to benefit from lightweight training.

Mind Body Workout

at 11:55AM, 1:55PM, and 3:55PM

Everyone knows that daily exercise is great for your body. It keeps you fit, healthy and active. But what if there was an even better way to workout. What if there was a way to help your mind, body, and help boost your immune system? Michael Gonzales Wallace, the originator of the Mind Body Workout, has found a way to incorporate exercise into a complete body workout. Join us today as Suzanne works out with Michael and puts the Mind Body Workout to the test.

The “Total” Body Workout

Michael’s Mind Body Workout, properly termed neuromuscular progressive resistance, is deemed the best thing to improve you overall fitness, mentally and physically. The workout is a 12-week program which starts you off at a beginners pace. Just as your body gets used to the workout and the movements, Michael changes it up. For example, one week you may have to do squats where you sit down, and the next week you could be standing instead of sitting. These changes are implemented to keep your mind from falling into a workout “rut” where you are doing the same things over and over. Michael’s workout is meant to keep it fun and interesting as well as challenging.

How It Works

What are stressed in the Mind Body Workout is the continual changes that you do as you progress. According to Dr. John D. Morley, a professor of gerontology at St. Louis University School of Medicine, these changes “actually prompt the cerebellum [the part of the brain involved with coordinated movement and some cognitive learning] to make new neural connections.” As you progress, weights are added, which provides you with resistance training. The resistance helps you gain muscle and stamina as well. Did you know that working out in general could help you boost your immune system? David Neiman, a professor of health and exercise science at Appalachian State University, says that “working out for at least 30 minutes a day caused a temporary increase in natural killer cells”, as found in one of his trials. Not only is working out good for your body and mind, but it helps boost your metabolism. A boosted metabolism means that your body burns though fat quicker, slowing the chances of weight gain.

Overall

Overall, it is a good idea in general to remain fit. But if you are looking for a great way to stay in shape as well as conditioning your mind, the Mind Body Workout may be the workout you are looking for. With benefits of working out ranging from raising you immune system, increasing coordination, and boosting metabolism, it is hard not to choose a healthy workout option. Remember however, good fitness ties in hand in hand with healthy eating.
